If you can’t see anything on any screen, you can hold the Windows Key in and tap P repeatedly to cycle through the different modes. You can then use the mouse pointer to select your preferred mode. To quickly switch between these modes, hold the Windows Key + P. A discrete GPU will have the connector on the card itself, accessible through the tall rear slots on the back of the computer. The picture above is an example of a motherboard connection. If you have a discrete GPU installed, make sure to plug the HDMI cable into the card and not into the HDMI port on the motherboard. Many desktop computers have integrated graphics available through an HDMI port on the motherboard itself. That will help determine which component is at fault. To isolate the problem with your HDMI port not working, mix and match components in your connection with other devices to see if the issue is with the display, the computer, or the cable itself. If you see any kind of damage, replace or repair the components if possible. Check the cable to make sure it isn’t frayed or that the connectors aren’t deformed, corroded, or partially broken from the cable. I really don't want to return this laptop. If I need to replace the monitor, I'd like a 27" IPS 4K flat (not curved) display. Do I need to buy a different monitor? If so, what monitor have you used with this laptop that you know works? Do I need a different USB-C to HDMI converter or is the j5create compatible with the Envy?
Please tell me what I need to replace to get this to work: Nothing I've tried has made any difference.
I even tried connecting the j5create adapter to external power (which is possible but not required)
The HDMI cable works at 4k between my 4kUHD blu-ray player and my 4kUHD TV in the living room. The monitor works through HDMI with my other 2 laptops. On the other end, pressing the monitor detect button on the laptop says it can't find any additional monitors.Īll other ports on the j5create adapter are working-USBx2 and Ethernet. When I turn on the monitor it scans the HDMI port for some time and says "no signal" and then turns off. This is a 1920x1080 monitor and I've switched my laptop to 1920x1080. Then connected my monitor to the box using an HDMI cable. I purchased a j5create USB Type-C Multi-Adapter (JCA374) which supports 4k HDMI (DisplayPort Alt Mode Compatible.
